We're at the Northtown Center for Kenmore vs. Williamsville Section VI girls hockey final. Check for updates throughout and also look for updates on twitter @miggyrod33 during the night.
Game started 15 minutes late but Kenmore is defending Section champ while Williamsville won inaugural sectional title in 2011. This year, however, is first time the champ will participate in a state tournament against the other three sections that offer hockey -- Sections III, VII and X. States begin Friday in Canton and the final is at noon Saturday.
We are scoreless through one period of play. Not too many chances for either team but Kenmore had a few more than Williamsville, although both teams had one good chance to score. Williamsville goalie Theresa Meosky made an early save against a Kenmore player on her doorstep. Kenmore goalie Lauren Pray made a stop on a power-play chance with 2:32 left when Jordan Roetzer skated out front from below the goal line uncontested but her backhand chance was denied.Second period update: Each team has picked up pace and generated morechances but we're still scoreless. With 7:19 left, Pray made perhaps her best save on a sneaky redirect that seemed destined to slip in.
With 5:05 left, Kenmore scores as Kaelie Mathias gets one unassisted. Kenmore leads, 1-0.
After two periods, Kenmore leads 1-0. Williamsville outshooting Kenmore, 25-17 -- including 15-9 in second period, but only numbers that matter are on the scoreboard.
We're going to overtime. Rachel Grampp's early third-period goal ties game at 1-1. WIlliamsville had better of third period. Kenmore goalie sharp other than yielding Grampp's goal during goal-mouth scramble.
At 1:06 of the second overtime period, Kenmore's Alyssa Dollendorf scores off Jill Battista assist. Battista wraparound didn't work but Dollendorf there to smack in rebound and help Kenmore win second title in a row.
