The final game of the championship tripleheader at First Niagara Center is the game formerly known as the Federation Catholic Final, now called the Niagara Cup Final, featuring Bishop Timon-St. Jude vs. St. Joe's.
We're kind of on deadline, so we'll provide updates ASAP.
St. Joe's scores first, on the power play as Eric Paradowski backdoor one timer from Dimitrios Gogos with 11:30 left. St. Joe's leads 1-0.
Typical St. Joe's vs. Bishop Timon game so far (at least parts I've been able to watch) as both teams are playing tough, physical. Goals even harder to come by in this one.
WOW. What a pretty goal by Niagara University commit Dennis Gilbert. After breaking up potential short-handed chance near own blue line, he retrieves puck on left side, makes quick charge down the wing and cuts to front of the net against Timon defender and beats goalie with nifty one-hander. He flat out beat the Timon defender to that spot. Knocked into crossbar at end but St. Joe's leads 2-0 with 19.5 left in period.
End of two, St. Joe's leads 2-0.
I apologize for missing the number of the St Joe's player but what a glove save on a breakaway by Timon goalie Bob Milewski with 11:40 left.
Timon makes it interesting, pulling within 2-1 on a goal by Connor Fields, who one-timed a 2-on-1 feed from Mike Faliero into the goal with 10:52 left. St. Joe's leads, 2-1.
Lot of hockey left, don't go anywhere folks.
With 7:37 left, we are tied at 2. A power-play goal by Timon's Trey McGee. Tied 2-2.
With 5:31 left, Zachary Klapp picks off breakout pass up middle by Timon D and beats surprised Timon goalie. St. Joe's leads 3-2.
I think defenseman was trying high, hard slapshot breakout pass since no Timon teammate near him but he didn't get puck up high as it was right onto stick of St. Joe's Klapp, who was between the circles.
With 1:20 left, power play for Timon down 3-2 and goalie on bench for two-man advantage.
Intereference penalty on Timon negates PP with 1:05 left.
Milewski makes great glove save with 24.4 left to keep St. Joe's from making it 4-2 on breakaway chance by Paradowski.
Off draw, a gift 2-on-1 for Timon but Fields opts to pass instead of pulling trigger with Justin Blake driving hard to the net. Pass blocked and foloow shot goes over glass. Thought it hit St. Joe's stick but refs rule other wise and draw outside zone with 14 seconds left.
St. Joe's hangs on to win Niagara Cup, 3-2. What a third period. Tough break for a more-than-game Timon Tigers crew trying to win first Fed title since 2002.
Gotta run. Thanks for checking in fans.
