In other action, Trevor Barber leads the boys Division II pentathlon with 2,072 points through one day, and Seamus Degan (City Honors, Division II) and Kalen Sullivan (West Seneca West, Division I) claimed the 800-meter titles.
3:40 p.m. -- I'm going to have to lessen on the updates because I forgot my phone's #preptalkcharger and my battery is running low. Will South's Devon Patterson just claimed the boys shot put title with a throw just over 61'.
3:33 p.m. -- The girls 400-meter in Division II is complete, and qualifiers are as follows: Brittany Feldman (Southwestern), Julia Grupp (Holland), Julie Barton (Allegany-Limestone), Josette Dawson (Amherst), Shantel McCart (Clymer), Gabie Montalbano (Amherst), Elizabeth Vohlwinkel (JFK), Hannah Hebdon (Springville).
2:59 p.m. -- Here are the qualifiers for the Division I boys 400-meter dash: Matt Schaefer (Will North), Adam Yacos (Starpoint), Justin Petrocy (Iroquois), Tim Dubill (Hamburg), Markus Diehl (Frontier), Adrian Cannon (Frontier), Jamie McQuiller (Hutch Tech), Justin Capuano (Jamestown).
2:25 p.m. -- The boys Division II shot put has gone final. Jason Bunk (Alden) edged out Roman Greco (Allegany-Limestone) to win it. Stephanie Lombardo (Cheektowaga) claimed the girls Division II discus throw with a distance of 123-07.
2:19 p.m. -- The girls are now running the 400-meter preliminaries. 1:03 p.m. -- The hurdle semifinals are taking place over on the track and I'm in the field area for the shot put finals qualifiers. Alden's Jason Bunk has the early lead in boys Division II with an impressive throw of 49'9".
12:41 p.m. -- The races are in full swing. All field finals will take place today, and qualifiers are commencing right now. The only track finals today are the boys and girls 800-meter and boys and girls 3,200-meter (Divisions I and II).
12:06 p.m. -- The boys 110-meter hurdles as part of the pentathlon is next. The pentathlon involves five events total over today and tomorrow. A cool shade has thankfully appeared, at least for the moment; I don't envy the athletes running in this heat.
12:00 p.m. -- We're underway! The girls pentathlon is the first event, with the 100-meter hurdles as the first section of the race.
11:49 a.m. -- Hello from Pioneer Central School! Aaron Mansfield here from the Section VI Outdoor Track & Field Championship. It's 80 degrees and extremely sunny. This is the qualifier for next week's state meet, which will take place in Middletown Friday-Saturday. There are 169 events scheduled for today with approximately 70 schools represented.
