Day One of state track & field meet rained out

By Aaron Mansfield

MIDDLETOWN -- The first day of the New York State boys and girls outdoor track & field championships has been rained out. All events will take place tomorrow, rain or shine.

The rain came down hard all night and it's been pouring all morning in Middletown, which is about an hour outside of New York City, creating hazardous conditions for competition. The organizers chose to postpone all events to Saturday.

Competition is tentatively scheduled to commence at 8:40 a.m. The original schedule called for action from 11:30-5:40 p.m. Friday and 10-3:30 p.m. Saturday.

This is the first time the event has taken place at Middletown High School.

There will be 19 finals for both boys and girls tomorrow (16 individual events, three relay events). For a full breakdown of what's to come in Saturday's action-packed day of finals, check out tomorrow's News.
