Canisius' Matt MacDonald signs with Farleigh Dickinson

By Keith McShea

Recent Canisius graduate Matt MacDonald signed a Division I basketball scholarship with Farleigh Dickinson today, according to a tweet from Crusaders coach Kyle Husband.

MacDonald was a third-team All-Western New York selection this past season. He averaged 15.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and two assists to help the Crusaders win their third straight Manhattan Cup.

MacDonald had received Division II scholarship offers and was considering prep school as well. MacDonald's father, Mike, is the head coach at Medaille.

Farleigh Dickinson, located in Teaneck, N.J., went 7-24 overall and 2-16 in the Northeast Conference last season. It hired new head coach Greg Herenda in April; Herenda was at Division II UMass-Lowell the previous five years.

There are now three members of Western New York's Class of 2013 set to play Division I basketball. MacDonald's Canisius teammate Adam Weir and fellow All-WNY first teamer Jermaine Crumpton of Niagara Falls are both at Canisius College.
