As has been the case for decades, The News greatly appreciates the assistance of coaches and schools in their reporting of information to us. It is an invaluable part of our high school coverage.
DAILY GAMES/CONTESTS: Coaches of the winning team are asked to contact The News.
Football and basketball coaches should call 849-4461 or 1-800-777-8610 ASAP after contests with a final score and key details of the event.
For fall sports other than football, winning coaches should submit scores to email@example.com. See HERE for complete details.
We ask that the winning coach provide the information because the key details are usually most easily reported by the winning coach.
For football games, we take box scores that include quarter-by-quarter scoring and a rundown of all scoring plays (for BOTH teams, including play, yardage and the names of players involved). Incomplete box scores will not be published.
For basketball games, we take box scores that include quarter-by-quarter scoring and a rundown of all players who scored as well as three-point goals (for BOTH teams). Incomplete box scores will not be published.
For all other sports, we take the final score as well as at least one "line" of information that includes leading performer(s) and/or key plays of the contest. For higher-profile and/or more eventful contests, we will take more information. For the top games, a reporter will contact the coach for a brief interview to obtain some "quotes" for our writeups.
The "line" of information will appear on our scoreboard page in the paper as well as on our web scoreboard page.
The most interesting/relevant/newsworthy contests will be written up -- those writeups will appear as part of the web scoreboard page and will be among the games that are included in our daily High School Extra or high school roundups in the next day's News.
The more relevant information they coaches provide, the easier it is for us to procure your information and the more likely it is that your team will receive coverage.
We ask that coaches calling in their scores please be patient. We do have several people assigned to take scores, but very often there is a "rush hour" of calls as many contests end around the same time of day/night.
We strongly prefer that head coaches provide us the information; that is the most seamless way for all of the most important info to get to us.
MEETS/TOURNAMENTS: For meets, invitationals or larger team tournaments, coaches or event organizers are asked to email information to the general sports email of firstname.lastname@example.org; if it cannot be emailed, it can be faxed to 849-4587.
PLAYOFF GAMES: Winning coaches -- unless you speak to a News reporter after the game, please treat it like any other game and email or call us. We cover the finals in most sports and the semifinals in a small amount; especially at that time of year, it is good for everyone involved that coaches make sure that those games are reported to The News.
THANK YOU coaches, assistants, athletic directors and all team supporters who help get the information to us. It is greatly appreciated.
