We're thrilled to announce that for the second straight year, top 10 finalists for the Connolly Cup will be revealed live on PrepTalkTV.
Connolly Cup Committee members Dennis Sarow and Gregg O'Shei will be part of our 4 p.m. Thursday broadcast (watch in the window above or on our home page) as we unveil the finalists for the coveted award, which annually goes to Western New York's most outstanding high school football player.
Each year, the Riverside Athletic Club's Connolly Cup Committee scouts games throughout the season, announcing weekly honor rolls all with the intent on determining the most outstanding football player in Western New York.
This year's finalists won't even know they've been selected until their names are announced on PrepTalkTV.
The top 10 finalists are announced late in the season, generally after local championship games, with the Connolly Cup usually announced on the first Saturday of December during a banquet at Ilio DiPaolo's in Blasdell.
Corey Barczykowski of Alden was last year's Connolly Cup winner. Last year The Buffalo News Players of the Year were Canisius lineman Ryan Hunter and running back Qadree Ollison (our award is separate and The News is not part of the Connolly Cup committee).
Check out a ton of information on the award at connollycup.com.
PrepTalkTV is our weekly Thursday live show at buffalonews.com in which myself and various guests recap each weekend of high school football and look forward to the top upcoming games with analysis and in-studio interviews.
This week, guest co-host Dave DeLuca will join me as -- in addition to the Connolly Cup unveiling -- we review last week's Far West Regionals, take a look at this weekend's state semifinals, and also preview Thursday night's Monsignor Martin championship game at Ralph Wilson Stadium between Canisius and St. Joe's.
Usually, PrepTalkTV airs at 7:30 Thursdays; this week it has been moved to an earlier time due to the Monsignor Martin final.
Another scheduling tweak for next week: Due to Thanksgiving, both the Bills Roundable (9:30 a.m.) and PrepTalkTV (1 p.m.) will air at earlier times on Wednesday, Nov. 27.
