By Keith McShea

Canisius basketball players Howard Washington, Ryan Richards and LaTerrance Reed will be our guests on the final PrepTalkTV episode of 2013. The show is tonight at 7:30 and can be watched right here.

Canisius was supposed to be on last week's show, but we had to cancel due to snowstorm.

The final live chat of the calendar year will follow at about 8:15, as we'll discuss anything in the world of high school sports while keeping an eye on basketball and hockey action via #PrepTalkLive.

Please be patient in the chat. I promise I'll get to all questions.

By Keith McShea

In my Prep Talk column today I named our final Power 10 for the fall season.

The fall has so many teams, so many champions.

Here's my breakdown of the remainder of the many, many top programs of this past season:

#PrepTalkLive Tuesday hoops: Will North beats Jamestown in final seconds; Ken West tops Lockport (with VIDEO)

By Keith McShea

It's another busy night in high school basketball full of some big early-season games: Jamestown visits Williamsville North and Clarence is at Frontier in ECIC I; Lockport is at Kenmore West in an early Niagara Frontier League showdown; in the Monsignor Martin Association, Canisius heads to a Park team that started well while Bishop Timon-St. Jude hosts St. Mary's in a matchup that has been a very good one in recent years, while Fredonia visits Lackawanna in a very nice small-school nonleaguer.

Check out links to today's boys basketball coverage before heading out to the games.

I think I'll be starting at Kenmore West before heading up to Will North.

We will set up blogs like this throughout the winter, especially on big, busy nights -- we'll monitor games via not only our tweets, but those of high school sports fans and followers who use the #preptalklive hashtag. Last week we did it Tuesday and Friday. And while tonight is a busy basketball night, we want tweets from all varsity sports.

Much of it starts with you high school fans out there. Tweet updates and observations with the hashtag #preptalklive, and those will appear instantly in the blog below, making the #preptalklive blog -- as it was during football season -- the place to check out scores from all over Western New York.

Our scoreboard page has a schedule of today's games and will have box scores as games are reported to us.

Video highlights from my evening.

Lockport's last possession, down three at Kenmore West:

Then from Williamsville North's 61-60 victory over Jamestown, North's final possession, on which Maceo Jack's three-pointer put them ahead:

How The News voted: Tipping off 2013-14

By Keith McShea

Every week during the basketball season a panel of voters participates in The News' large and small school boys basketball polls, which are published in the Scholastic Spotlight.

And every week we let you know, like the title says ... how The News voted. This is just one ballot -- there are nine other voters in each poll, which debuts this week. It returns next week before taking a one-week break for the holidays.

As you may have seen, I wrote an expanded version of this blog as today's boys basketball outlook. There is also a story on Howard Washington of Canisius and a list of returning All-WNY players.

Here's a link to last year's final poll, and here's this year's first shot:

#PrepTalkLive Friday hoops: Canisius to meet Nazareth again; Will North beats Lancaster

By Keith McShea

I'll be at a couple games tonight on what is a pretty busy Friday in high school basketball, including the Keenan Classic at Canisius and several good early league contests. I'll be starting at Canisius for its game with Fordham Prep, then I'll be hitting a league game -- I think it might end up being Lancaster at Williamsville North

This blog is an extension of what we did Tuesday evening, and what we'll try to do throughout the winter -- monitoring games via the tweets of high school sports fans and followers who use the #preptalklive hashtag.

Note: The scoreboard page might not be complete because gathering info early in the season can sometimes be a challenge. Also, we appreciate the patience of coaches and readers regarding some glitches in our scoreboard page in the opening weeks of the season. We are working to resolve several issues. THANK you.

Live chat (Dec. 12): All-Western New York football review & feedback

By Keith McShea

UPDATE (7:15 p.m.): Due to the traffic nightmare near One News Plaza caused by the snowstorm and a concert whose name rhymes with "Christmas Rash," PrepTalkTV is cancelled tonight.

But the live chat will go on.

Tonight's episode of PrepTalkTV welcomes in one season while closing the book on another.

We will welcome Canisius basketball coach Kyle Husband along with sophomore Howard Washington and lone returning starter Ryan Richards for our 7:30 p.m. episode.

We'll talk a little football with Richards in the latter half of the program, as we transition into our yearly live chat (around 8:15) to discuss feedback of the All-Western New York football team. We'll be taking your questions in the chat, while I'll pipe in various tweets that have been directed my way (or discuss the All-WNY team in general).

Please be patient in the chat. I promise I'll get to all questions.

#PrepTalkLive from League Opener Tuesday: NT wins at Niagara Falls; Clarence beats Will North in final seconds

By Keith McShea

I'll be in the office tonight on what is a pretty big, early night for high school basketball, including several league openers on the boys side.

This blog is an extension of what we did Saturday afternoon, and what we might be doing more often -- monitoring games via the tweets of high school sports fans and followers who use the #preptalklive hashtag.

There are several nights where we will be doing our own #preptalklive reporting from big games, but there will also be many nights where we don't have a reporter out at a particular contest. That's just the way it goes in the winter with events happening almost every evening. We're hoping to incorporate different things into this kind of feature and this kind of coverage, so things will certainly evolve.

VIDEO: Timon outshoots Will North in OT at Cataract Classic

By Keith McShea

If you missed Bishop Timon-St. Jude's 66-64 overtime win over Williamsville North last Saturday, here are some pretty great highlights.

Here's my story on the game and here's the live blog from Saturday night. My bad (chest tap) on these not being posted earlier, but there just wasn't enough time in the day.

Note: The iphone camera-man makes no apologies for his commentary, which mostly sounded like this: "OHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

#PrepTalkLive from the Cataract Classic: Timon-St. Jude beats Will North in OT

By Keith McShea

I'll be on hand for the marquee matchups of the Cataract Classic tonight at Niagara Falls as Williamsville North meets Bishop Timon-St. Jude at 6 and Niagara Falls hosts Bishop Kearney of Rochester at 7:30.

We're going to post this blog early in the afternoon since -- as there is every year on the first Saturday of December -- a lot of early-season tournament action going on throughout the day.

I'll only be covering games in the evening, so we'll be relying on tweets to #preptalklive (or #preptalkscores) for updates -- it's a bit of an experiment, but I know there will many reporters and fans out there at games so we'll try to monitor as many as we can as we encourage people to use the #preptalklive hashtag.

Here goes ... and I'll see you tonight from the Falls.

Our scoreboard page has a schedule of today's games and will have box scores as games are reported to us.

The scoreboard page might not be complete because gathering info early in the season can sometimes be a challenge. Also, we appreciate the patience of coaches and readers regarding some glitches in our scoreboard page in this opening week of the season. We are working to resolve several issues. THANK you.
