Prep Talk Player of the Year for girls lacrosse: Allie Stewart, Lancaster

By Keith McShea

2StewartFor Allie Stewart of Lancaster, there is quantity and quality when it comes to lacrosse.

Stewart has been playing varsity lacrosse since seventh grade, and she has played at a high level almost since she stepped on the varsity field.

She is a four-time All-Western New York first teamer and a two-time All-American who has been a pivotal part of Lancaster's championship program every year, which is why she has been named the Prep Talk Player of the Year for girls lacrosse.

Stewart has helped Lancaster to a third straight Section VI championship this year, while she also was part of a title team in her first two varsity seasons.

She is headed to reigning Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference champion Canisius College, where she verbally committed to as a sophomore.

She talked about her award, season and future plans in a recent visit to PrepTalkTV

Prep Talk Player of the Year for boys lacrosse: Connor Fields, Bishop Timon-St. Jude

Charles Lewis/Buffalo NewsBy Keith McShea

Connor Fields of Bishop Timon-St. Jude scored 108 goals this year, the most in New York State and in the top three in the country -- one year after scoring 129, believed to be a national record.

For his astounding offensive numbers, and how it helped push his team to another outstanding season, Fields has been named the Prep Talk Player of the Year in boys lacrosse.

He, along with talented senior teammate Adam Dimillo, has been named an Under Armour All-American and will play in the national showcase game this summer. Dimillo is headed to Maryland while Fields is headed to the University at Albany.

Timon went 14-5 with its only losses to North American powers Boys Latin of Maryland, Culver Institute of Indiana (twice) and Hill Academy of Ontario (Timon went 1-2).

Fields was also named the Prep Talk Player of the Year in boys hockey. He was the only Western New York player who earned all-state honors in that sport as he scored 47 goals for the Tigers.

He talked about his award, season and future plans in a recent visit to PrepTalkTV

When I learned this afternoon (via live tweeting by Metro's Tom Gallagher) that West Seneca East softball was playing without three starters in its Section VI Class A semifinal against Williamsville South (South would win, 8-2), it reminded me of one of the best teams I have ever covered, and one of the best stories I've been able to be around for.

So I dug it up.

The 2008 Lancaster girls lacrosse team made history on the field -- and they had people talking off of it.

The two words I remember the team by are: "Forget prom!"

Here's the story (check out this blog post about it as well, which includes some backstory on the picture above, which ran on the front page of the paper):

Your #PrepTalkLive updates on a very busy, very sunny Monday

By Keith McShea

The good news is, it's sunny out in Western New York.

The bad news is, it might be wet tomorrow. And the next day ... and the rest of this week.

Weather forecasts are calling for rain for Tuesday through Friday, so high school sports fans need to enjoy today. The good news there is, there's plenty to enjoy.

A very busy lineup includes the first baseball meeting between St. Joe's and Canisius (4:30 p.m. at St. Joe's) as well as a ton of baseball, softball and lacrosse.

Our scoreboard page has a schedule of today's games -- that same page will have box scores as games are reported to us throughout the evening.

As always, we're looking forward to your #PrepTalkLive updates on Twitter.

Ccontribute updates and keep track of others as well in the blog below -- the easiest way to do that is to tweet updates with the #PrepTalkLive hashtag. Those tweets will automatically appear below.

We will set up blogs like this throughout the spring, especially on busy days -- we'll monitor some games with not only our own tweets, but those of high school sports fans and followers who use the #preptalklive hashtag.

We want tweets from all varsity sports every day of the week. The #preptalklive blog (and hashtag) -- as it was during football season and the winter -- is the place to check out scores from all over Western New York.
