PrepTalkTV Week Two: Lockport football, guest host Jonah Bronstein & postshow live chat

By Keith McShea

Our second episode of PrepTalkTV is tonight at 7:30 (you'll be able to watch it here and the home page of BuffaloNews.com).

Our guests are coach Greg Bronson and senior quarterback Dan Bronson of Lockport, which recorded a huge win last Friday at Orchard Park. The Lions upended the Quakers despite Dan Bronson, the returning starting quarterback, being knocked out for the season after suffered a broken collarbone in their Week One game. Lockport has another great matchup this week as they host fellow 2-0 Class AA team Frontier at 2 p.m. Saturday.

We'll also have our second guest host of the season with Jonah Bronstein of homebasebuffalo.com. Bronstein is a Kenmore East and Brockport State graduate, a veteran sportswriter in Western New York and the founder and publisher of homebasebuffalo.com, which tracks local athletes who have gone on to participate in college athletics.

We will be rotating guest hosts throughout the year, and we're still accepting applications from current high school students.

After the show, we'll conduct a live chat here on the blog. As always, anything in the world of high school sports, or our coverage of it, is up for discussion.

As always, I will try to get to every question. Please be patient.

First live chat (Sept. 4): Football preview, Friday's #preptalklive debut & students' chance to co-host PrepTalkTV

By Keith McShea

We'll reveal some exciting plans for the football season, talk about the upcoming season, the Week One matchups and anything else in the world of high school sports in our first live chat of the 2013-14 high school sports year. Join in tonight at 9:30.

As always, any questions about our coverage and any sport are welcome. Please be patient; I promise I'll get to all the questions and comments.

If you're out at a fall sports event today, tweet updates to #preptalkscores -- those will appear right in the blog.

Live chat (April 10): All-Western New York basketball, McKinley-Canisius & ton of tweets

Usually one of the most entertaining chats of the year is scheduled for tonight at 9: You ask, I answer on the All-Western New York basketball team. I'll likely get things started by going over some of the tweets that have been fired off since Saturday.

In today's Prep Talk column, I wrote something of a preamble on a certain word -- a cop-out of a word -- that people often use when critizing/complaining about the All-WNY teams.

The complete lists of the teams, including honorable mentions are here: boys and girls. Here are bios of the second, third and fourth teams for boys and girls. And the bios of the first team for boys and girls, except the Players of the Year: CanisiusAdam Weir and Grand Island's Cassie Oursler.

Here's the blog post in which we attempted to list all possible candidates for All-Western New York.

There's also that matter of a tie for the No. 1 large school ranking by McKinley and Canisius: my story, the poll, and my ballot

And here's the chat:

PrepTalkTV Weekly starred Cardinal O'Hara girls hoops; live chat talked seedings we're expecting

By Keith McShea

For this week's PrepTalkTV Weekly -- which you can see right here tonight at 9 -- we'll welcome a team fresh off one of the biggest wins in school history (and that's any sport). We'll have the Cardinal O'Hara girls team on one night after beating Sacred Heart in a battle of Western New York's No. 1s.

And yes, we said the team. Part of the reason that O'Hara is a great story -- besides its undefeated record -- is that there are just eight players on the team, so they'll all be on hand along with coach Dan McDermott.

We'll have another loaded show of highlights from boys and girls hoops as well as hockey, wrestling and swimming -- including a couple of "[BN] The Locker Room" videos of coaches' pregame speeches. We'll also have more highlights in PrepTalkTV Rewind as well our weekly look at the boys basketball polls and a look ahead to this weekend and beyond.

As usual after PrepTalkTV Weekly, I'll have a live chat following the show.

Here's a rundown of the show:

0:00 -- Opening, discussion of McShea's Prep Talk column on Depew Boys & Girls Club
3:10 -- Interview with Cardinal O'Hara girls basketball team, including coach Dan McDermott, senior Leah McDonell and junior Keyonte Edwards
13:40 -- Clarence hockey's win over Frontier, featuring [BN] The Locker Room footage of coach Rick Brooks
18:30 -- Canisius boys swimming dominates St. Joe's to start strong weekend
21:45 -- Canisius boys basketball moves to No. 1 in The News poll and the state Class A poll; featuring [BN] The Locker Room with coach Kyle Husband from Friday's win at Timon
25:50 -- Look at this week's boys basketball polls
28:10 -- PrepTalkTV Rewind (St. Francis wrestling, Iroquois girls basketball, a special guest star on the Bucky & Sully show), followed by discussion of concussions in football and a mention of locals on National Signing Day
35:55 -- Discussion of this weekend's big championship wrestling meets
38:05 -- A look ahead to upcoming action from Thursday to Tuesday; closing.

PrepTalkTV Weekly has great visit from Sister Maria & Sacred Heart; chat has #preptalkalumni updates

By Keith McShea

For this week's PrepTalkTV Weekly -- which you can see right here tonight at 9 -- we'll welcome in a Hall of Famer in what we think is a loaded episode.

Legendary Sacred Heart girls basketball coach Sister Maria Pares, along with senior standouts La'Trice Hall and Hannah Rehbaum, will be our in-studio guests (the Sharks are coming straight from their game tonight with St. Mary's).

We'll also have a look back at some major wrestling and boys basketball action from the past week, more highlights in PrepTalkTV Rewind, our weekly look at the boys basketball polls and a look ahead to this weekend and beyond. Lauren and I will also likely talk about my Prep Talk column today pushing for a special kickoff event for the 2014 football season.

Final live chat of the season (May 23): Sectional baseball and softball & watching NCCC baseball finish second in country

With the quickest-of-all-seasons zooming towards the finish, we will hold our final live chat of the school year tonight at 9 p.m.

The hectic playoff schedule over the next two weeks -- the last weeks of the spring season -- keep me too busy to hold a chat. I will, however, be doing several live blogs from postseason games. There may be a chat after the season is over, but we'll see.

For tonight ...

* We'll monitor on the scoreboard page and the #preptalkscores hashtag on Twitter as the playoffs continue tonight. Included are championships in Monsignor Martin softball, All-High track and Section VI boys tennis. We have correspondents at all three.

* Pick a sport and there are brackets to break down: baseball and softball are headed to the quarterfinals while girls lacrosse (Thursday) and boys lacrosse (Friday) have semifinals later this week (if those postseason schedule pages don't have results, they should be on our scoreboard page).

* The third Power 10 of the spring is out.

* I wrote about Jasen Oden of East High signing with Colorado State football in today's Prep Talk column.

As always, anything in the world of high school sports -- or our coverage of it -- is up for discussion.

I promise I'll get to your question or comment -- but please be patient. It can get busy fielding all of the questions and I can only answer one at a time. And PLEASE don't enter your question/comment multiple times -- that only makes things more hectic.

We will have our live chat tonight, starting with a video portion with Lauren Mariacher and myself at 9 p.m. After a half-hour, I'll continue with the traditional chat.

The postseason will soon be upon us in all sports.
