It's a media witch hunt.
He's misunderstood.
Terrell Owens truly is a nice guy.
Those are the types of things we've heard from Owens' apologists over the course of his career, including his relatively calm season with the Buffalo Bills.
But the curtain continues to get pulled back on Owens' sad personal life. Less and less, he looks like any kind of hero.
There was the dreadful appearance with three of his children's mothers on "Dr. Phil," where he was accused of not caring about his kids unless he's using them to rehabilitate his image. There was a lengthy profile on Grantland.com about his failed rebirth in the Indoor Football League, his financial woes and the admission that he has contemplated suicide.
Owens didn't show up Thursday for a child-support hearing. He's reportedly $20,000 behind on payments for his 7-year-old daughter. He has four kids by four mothers.
Owens is believed to have made nearly $100 million in his NFL career.
He signed a one-year, $6.5 million contract to play with the Bills in 2009. He then signed a one-year, $2 million deal with the Cincinnati Bengals for 2010 and has been out of the NFL since.
Remember all the blind adulation Western New York showered on Owens when he arrived? The orchestrated welcome when he landed at the airport?
I wonder if Buffalo should ask for its key to the city back.
