Fitzpatrick calls first-team offense 'really poor'

By Tim Graham

Buffalo Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick was disappointed with the first-team offense in tonight's preseason opener against the Washington Redskins.

The Bills didn't run once on 15 plays. Fitzpatrick completed six of 14 throws for 61 yards and no touchdowns or interceptions. The Redskins sacked him once.

A 20-yard touchdown connection with Stevie Johnson was wiped out by an illegal-formation penalty.

"We wanted to get in the no-huddle and spread the ball around a little bit," Fitzpatrick said at halftime. "We did not do a very good job of executing.

"It's the first preseason game for us, and so we knew there was going to be some sloppy stuff. There was no game plan. We just wanted to go out there and try to get it figured out on the field, and we were not real successful."

Teams generally don't strategize for preseason games. The Bills second- and third-teamers got most of the snaps in the last training camp practice Tuesday.

Fitzpatrick clearly wanted the offense to perform better tonight.

"I thought it was really poor," Fitzpatrick said. "But luckily it's preseason. ... We have a lot to work on and we are looking forward to this season coming up."
