Star of the game: A few years back, the Bills' best player was Brian Moorman. That's how bad things were. They've since cultivated overachievers such as Fred Jackson and Stevie Johnson. They signed star pass-rusher Mario Williams. But Moorman was Buffalo's best player tonight. He averaged 43.2 yards on five punts with no touchbacks. They landed at the Redskins' 12-, 4-, 13-, 24- and 1-yard lines.
Play of the night: In the first quarter, Bills tight end Scott Chandler used every bit of his 6-foot-7 frame to catch a Ryan Fitzpatrick strike up the seam for a 26-yard gain despite being coverage by linebacker London Fletcher and safety Brandon Meriweather.
RG3 makes debut: Last year's Heisman Trophy winner, Robert Griffin III, played less than a quarter and finished 4 of 6 for 70 yards and a touchdown. He didn't throw any interceptions, but fumbled once. The Bills didn't sack him.
Young versus Thigpen: Vince Young wasn't spectacular through the air, but he showed remarkable athleticism when running the ball. He was spectacular on a few runs, including a 21-yard dash on a third-and-20 play. Tyler Thigpen had a rough night all the way around. He completed three of his eight throws for 38 yards and had an underthrown pass intercepted.
Worst series: In the second quarter and with Thigpen at quarterback, the Bills had first-and-goal from the Redskins' 3-yard line. They had six tries, thanks to a defensive-holding call on third down, and failed to score. Rian Lindell then missed a 22-yard field goal attempt.
Stat line of the night: The Bills committed eight false starts. They had 14 penalties for 134 yards.
Coming up: The Bills visit the Minnesota Vikings next Friday night at the Metrodome.
