Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan isn't worried about sending his prized rookie quarterback into action against the Buffalo Bills' potentially dangerous defensive line.
Shanahan told reporters Wednesday that he would use his starters, including Robert Griffin III, for between 12 and 20 snaps in next Thursday's preseason opener in Ralph Wilson Stadium. The game will be RG3's NFL debut.
"We're trying to put players in those situations that are game-like situations," Shanahan said. "We've got everybody on the sideline. We're playing it just like a game. You try to put a guy like Robert through as many game-type situations as possible, and hopefully it gets him ready a little bit quicker."
Shanahan also pointed out there's no reason to be cautious with Griffin against the Bills when the Redskins face some of the NFL's nastiest defensive lines in the NFC East.
