Torell Troup's season over; Bills put him on IR

By Tim Graham

The Buffalo Bills have pulled the plug on defensive tackle Torell Troup's 2012 season by placing him on injured reserve. Troup had spinal-fusion surgery in December and has struggled to participate in summer workouts.

A common sight at Bills training camp has been Troup riding a stationary bike while his teammates went full go. Defensive coordinator Dave Wannstedt on Tuesday called the situation "frustrating" but remained hopeful Troup could be a contributor.

McCoy Sports Bills_001The Bills' patience apparently ran out today.

Troup was the Bills' 2010 second-round pick, taken one spot before the New England Patriots selected star tight end Rob Gronkowski.

Troup played 15 games as a rookie and started twice. He had 23 tackles, one for a loss, a quarterback hit and a pass defensed.

He played only six games last year before going on injured reserve Nov. 30.

Troup going to IR again leaves one less 2010 draft pick on the Bills' active roster -- with more likely to be released next week. The Bills already have cut fifth-round pick Ed Wang and seventh-round picks Levi Brown and Kyle Calloway.

Defensive tackle Alex Carrington (72nd overall), receiver Marcus Easley (107th overall) and linebacker Danny Batten (192nd overall) all are on the bubble.

Running back C.J. Spiller and linebacker Arthur Moats appear to be the only 2010 draft choices who appear safe.
