EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Aaron Maybin was diplomatic following the New York Jets' 48-28 dismantling of the Buffalo Bills at MetLife Stadium today.
“I mean, yes, it feels good. I'll say that,” Maybin said with a smile that made it clear he'd like to say more, but thought better of it. "Obviously we would have liked to have finished the game on a stronger note on defense. We kind of gave up some big plays toward the end in the second half that we would like to get back, but to see all three phases of the game come together and put together a winning effort is great.
"That’s really all [coach] Rex [Ryan] has been preaching from the preseason on. For us to finally be able to start to put that together when it counts is good.”
Maybin didn’t make the stat sheet against his former team, but did come out for the coin toss to start the game, a Ryan tradition for any of his players going against an old team.
So did Maybin feel like the Jets had made a statement?
"I mean, no. We've always felt this way about ourselves," Maybin said. "We felt like we were capable of going out and performing better than we did today. At the end of the day, we've always said, 'We've got to really try to block out everybody that's outside the locker room.' Everybody's going to say what their expectations are of us and all that kind of stuff.
"We've got expectations of ourselves that are very high. As long as we continue to feed off of that and feed off of each other, then we're going to continue to hold ourselves to that high standard, no matter where people say we should rank."
