Brian Moorman's teammates showed their respect for him three weeks ago by voting him one of the Buffalo Bills' six captains.
Some of his former teammates expressed their high regard for him again Tuesday, tweeting their bewilderment over the Bills' decision to release the veteran punter.
Moorman was in his 12th season with the Bills. He was voted captain seven straight seasons and was an All-Pro in 2005 and 2006.
Bills running back Fred Jackson:
"WTF??? Released Mooreman??? For What??" (Jackson soon tweeted an apology for misspelling Moorman's name.)
Bills linebacker Nick Barnett:
"Wow we released Moorman?? Wow"
"@NickBarnett noooo!!!"
Bills running back C.J. Spiller:
"Just woke up from a great nap but to learn the sad news that we release Moorman he was def a great teammate but even better person."
" '@justinbassett: Thoughts on Brian Moorman's departure?' very tough saying bye to a good friend today. I wish him nothing but the best"
Cleveland radio host and former Bills safety Dustin Fox:
"Cleveland anybody? RT “@JasonLaCanfora: Bills are releasing veteran stalwart P Brian Moorman. Surprise move."
On the Press Coverage blog Tuesday, readers were asked if they agreed with the Bills' decision to cut Moorman.
"No" has been hovering around 67 percent.
