Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus is back in town today and practicing with the team after spending Wednesday in Alabama for the funeral of his slain younger brother.
Dareus is excited this week to be going up against one of his college teammates: Cleveland Browns running back Trent Richardson. Dareus was the third overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft. Richardson was the third overall pick of the 2012 draft.
"I know him real good," Dareus said. "The thing that makes him so good is what he plays for. Me and him play for the same thing: We play for our families. He works out for his family. He does everything for his family. That's his motivation. He's really trying to go out there and get it. He's strong and he's fast."
Richardson was the No. 2 back behind Mark Ingram during Dareus' last two seasons at Alabama, but Richardson was a big part of the team, gaining 751 and 700 yards those two years. Dareus said he respects the way Richardson carries himself among his teammates.
"He's not in the training room. He's not a complainer," Dareus said. "He’s not gonna say much. He goes out there and works."
Alabama coach Nick Saban has said Richardson is the most low-maintenance player he ever has coached.
"Somebody told me he said he had 100-some yards this week [against Cincinnati] and he's gonna get more next week," Dareus said.
