St. Francis graduate Doug Worthington was called up to the Washington Redskins' active roster Tuesday from the practice squad following the season-ending injuries to linebacker Brian Orakpo and defensive end Adam Carriker over the weekend.
Worthington was a seventh-round draft pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2010. He spent the final few weeks of last year on Washington's active roster, but did not appear in a game.
"At 6-5 and 311 pounds, he demonstrated power playing against reserves during the preseason. Consistency with his leverage is a main focus," Washington Times reporter Rich Campbell writes about Worthington.
I had a chance to talk to Worthington when the Redskins visited the Bills in a preseason game last month.
