Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey revealed today free
safety Jairus Byrd's foot injury likely will make their leading tackler a game-time
decision Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.
Byrd was spotted in a walking boot Monday, but Gailey told reporters then that Byrd's injury shouldn't be an issue for Cleveland.
"He's taken a step back," Gailey said today. "He's going to struggle to make some practice this week. So we'll have to see. It may be a game-time decision on him."
Byrd had an interception on the final play to seal the Bills' 35-17 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. After the game, an X-ray on his foot was negative for a break.
He has 10 solo tackles and 17 total tackles this year, most on the team.
Undrafted rookie Delano Howell, a healthy scratch each of Buffalo's first two games, is listed as Byrd's backup on the depth chart. But the probable solution would be switching George Wilson to free safety and inserting Da'Norris Searcy as the strong safety.
Gailey also noted before today's practice that receiver Ruvell Martin wouldn't participate because of an undisclosed injury and defensive tackle Marcell Dareus was in Alabama to attend his brother's funeral.
