The Buffalo Bills are rallying around defensive end Marcell Dareus after the death of his 19-year-old brother in a triple homicide near Birmingham, Ala.
Dareus returned to the club around noon today and participated fully in practice. He declined to speak with reporters afterward but was expected to release a statement later today through the team.
"In the short period of time we had a conversation, I could tell he's hurting," Bills coach Chan Gailey said. "But he's being strong."
Gailey said he thought Dareus would have to return to Alabama after Sunday's home opener against the Kansas City Chiefs.
"I thought one of our players stated it well," Gailey said. "He said that there's 60 family members here, too, 60 brothers here that care for him. They just want to help him get through it.
"He felt the responsibility to be back here, knowing he had responsibilities there. I think everybody's going to work to make sure that it all goes as smoothly as possible. It can't go smooth -- but as smoothly as possible."
