Quick highlights from the Buffalo Bills' 35-17 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Ralph Wilson Stadium.
What it means: The Bills bounced back from a deplorable loss to the New York Jets on opening day. The Bills are 1-1.
Star of the game: Bills running back C.J. Spiller was scintillating again. He became only the fourth running back in club history to record back-to-back 100-yard games to start a season. Spiller had one touch in the fourth quarter yet ran 15 times for 123 yards and two touchdowns and caught three passes for 47 yards.
Emotional day for Dareus: Defensive tackle Marcell Dareus, grieving over the shooting death of his teenage brother, tackled Jamaal Charles for a 5-yard loss in the first quarter and recorded the Bills' first sack of the season in the second quarter.
Sacks attack: After getting shut out at the Meadowlands, the Bills recorded five sacks against the Chiefs. Kyle Williams had two. Dareus, Alex Carrington and Kelvin Sheppard had the others.
Stat line of the game: Since we already shared Spiller's numbers, let's go with the efficiency of Ryan Fitzpatrick. He rebounded from a three-interception performance to go 10 of 19 for 178 yards and two touchdowns for a 120.1 passer rating.
Play of the day: With the Chiefs at the 1-yard line and on the verge of making it a game right before halftime, Bills linebacker Nick Barnett forced a Peyton Hillis fumble, and linebacker Bryan Scott recovered in the end zone. The Chiefs remained scoreless until 7:32 of the third quarter.
Preliminary injury report: Bills strong safety George Wilson was wobbly after making a tackle on Chiefs tight end Kevin Boss late in the second quarter. Wilson was back on the field at the start of the second half.
Coming up: The Bills will visit the Cleveland Browns next Sunday in a seemingly perennial matchup of teams trying to shake their pasts.
