Ron Brooks' recovery should take 6-8 weeks

By Jay Skurski

Buffalo Bills rookie cornerback Ron Brooks' expected recovery from foot surgery and the time he'll miss on injured reserve pair together well.

Brooks said today he expects to miss 6 to 8 weeks because of the injury. That's exactly the amount of time he's required to miss under the league's new rule, which allows one player per season to be put on IR with a "designated to return" tag.

Brooks can return to practice Oct. 17, then would be eligible to play in the Bills' game at Houston on Nov. 4, following the bye week.

"You definitely don’t want to be on IR period, but given the new rule and the fact that they chose me as that one designated person shows a lot about [how] the club’s committed to me," Brooks said. "I’m just going to go out there and work to get 100 percent."

In my estimation the Bills made a good call in using their recall on Brooks, given the time frame for his recovery and the position he plays. Cornerback depth is always in demand, and Brooks also played a valuable role as a special teams gunner.

"I wish things would have happened differently, but everything happens for a reason. I’m just going to do what the doctors tell me to do as far as rehabbing goes and work my butt off and get back out here," Brooks said.
