Video: Jim Kelly rooting for Tebow to cause trouble

By Tim Graham

Jim Kelly isn't a big Tim Tebow fan anymore.

When Tebow came out of the University of Florida in 2010, Kelly publicly advocated the Buffalo Bills use their ninth overall draft choice to acquire him. Tebow visited One Bills Drive before the draft, and Kelly took him out to dinner.

Now Kelly is rooting for Tebow to create internal chaos when the New York Jets open the season Sunday against the Bills at the Meadowlands.

Kelly was a guest on ESPN2's "First Take" and discussed the Jets' quarterback situation. He evaluated Tebow as a dangerous variable for the Bills to contend with, but suggested Mark Sanchez is the better option when it comes to playing every down.

"Sanchez, [the Bills] know he's going to drop back and do his typical thing," Kelly said. "But what's Tebow going to do? Is he going to be the difference between the Jets winning or losing?

"And then if Sanchez does struggle, how quick are the Jets fans going to turn against them. And as a Buffalo Bill, I hope that's sooner than later."

Kelly claimed Tebow doesn't have the full complement of skills to be a franchise quarterback.

As for the Bills, don't count Kelly among those who think exhibition games aren't meaningful. He didn't like watching the Bills go 0-4.

"I expected a lot from them early on before preseason started," Kelly said. "Then I sort of was a little disappointed. I know, 'Preseason's preseason,' but that's an old cliché everybody uses, I think, a little bit too much."

Kelly, with some prompting, ranked his top NFL quarterbacks: Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Ben Roethlisberger and Matt Schaub.
