PHOENIX -- Buffalo Bills defensive end Mark Anderson needs knee surgery and will be out of the lineup indefinitely, coach Chan Gailey told reporters today at the team's hotel.
"He's going to be out," Gailey said. "I don't know how long. We'll have to wait and see. They're going to tell after they go in and look at it."
When asked what ligament Anderson hurt Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers, Gailey said, "I don't know. But he'll be back. It's not like he's going to miss the rest of the season."
Gailey has been dodgy about injury issues lately, suggesting that he either doesn't understand the specifics or doesn't know.
I half-jokingly asked if the medical staff doesn't tell him everything.
"I just don't want to tell you," Gailey said. "That's the bottom line. I know what it is. But it's better to be vague."
Anderson and defensive end Mario Williams were Buffalo's two notable offseason acquisitions in hopes of ramping up their pass rush.
Anderson has started each of the past four games. He has 12 tackles, two for losses and one sack.
