Here’s a look at what the Western New Yorkers and University at Buffalo graduates currently playing in the NFL have done through the first six weeks of the season. Drop me a line on Twitter (@JaySkurski) if I missed anyone.
James Starks, RB, Green Bay Packers: The Niagara Falls native missed the first five games of the year because of a turf toe injury. He made his season debut in Week Six for the 3-3 Packers, rushing five times for 11 yards in Green Bay’s 42-24 win over Houston. Up next: at St. Louis, 1 p.m. Sunday.
Rob Gronkowski, TE, New England Patriots: “Gronk” has 29 catches for 356 yards and three touchdowns for the 3-3 Patriots. The Amherst native is one of the best players in the league at his position. Up next: New York Jets, 4:25 p.m. Sunday.
Doug Worthington, DT, Washington Redskins: The Buffalo native has appeared in two games for Washington this season, making a pair of tackles in Week Four. Worthington joined the Redskins’ active roster prior to Week Three. Up next: at New York Giants, 1 p.m. Sunday.
Brett Kern, P, Tennessee Titans: It’s homecoming weekend for the Grand Island native, who faces the Bills at 1 p.m. Sunday in Ralph Wilson Stadium. Kern is having a great season, leading the NFL with a net average of 44.5 yards.
Corey Graham, DB, Baltimore Ravens: The sixth-year pro from Buffalo is in his first season with the Ravens after five with the Chicago Bears. Graham has appeared in all six games for the 5-1 Ravens, making six tackles. He’s made another three special teams tackles. Up next: at Houston, 1 p.m. Sunday.
Mike Williams, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers: The Buffalo native has started all five games this season for the Bucs, with 15 catches for 332 yards and three touchdowns. Williams, in his third season, is averaging 22.1 yards per catch.
Chris Gronkowski, FB, Denver Broncos: Has appeared in all six games for the Broncos, making his first career catch for Denver in Week Three against Houston. On bye this week.
UB players
Josh Thomas, CB, Carolina Panthers: Had his best game of the season in Week Five before Carolina’s bye, making four tackles in a 16-12 loss to Seattle. Has played in the first five games of the season for the 1-4 Panthers.
Trevor Scott, LB, New England Patriots: Has appeared in all six games for New England, making four tackles, including one last week against Seattle. Up next: New York Jets, 4:25 p.m. Sunday.
