Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey endorsed defensive coordinator Dave Wannstedt's schemes for Sunday's 52-28 loss to the New England Patriots in Ralph Wilson Stadium.
The Bills allowed 33 first downs, 19 of them on the ground and surrendered 580 total yards. The Patriots trailed by two touchdowns in the third quarter before scoring 45 more points.
I asked Gailey today what his satisfaction level was with Wannstedt's game plans.
"Fine. I'm fine with it," Gailey said. "I've got complete confidence in Dave and what they're trying to do and where we've got our people situated, and that's the majority of it: Where do you have your people situated?
"We've got our people in the right spots. We're sound. We've just got to continue to get better. We've got to be able to stop the run, which we did for two games and we didn't for two games. I think we're capable of doing that."
The Bills have allowed 100 points in their two division losses, by far the most in the NFL.
"Again, you can throw statistics out and numbers out all you want to," Gailey said. "If you get punts returned and you get interceptions returned, all the sudden points start piling up, short field because of turnovers. Points pile up.
"I'm more concerned about how we play and the intensity and the quality of our play than I am the numbers that are thrown out there right now, and our quality of play isn't where it needs to be."
