Buffalo Bills coach Chan Gailey announced this afternoon defensive tackle Spencer Johnson will miss Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers.
Johnson has an ankle injury that could cause him to miss multiple games, Gailey said. Johnson got hurt in last Sunday's loss to the New England Patriots. He finished the game, but the injury worsened by Monday.
Johnson is an integral backup in the defensive tackle rotation the Bills use to give starters Kyle Williams and Marcell Dareus breathers during a game.
Gailey also provided updates on the rest of the injury report:
Safety Jairus Byrd (hip): "He was limited, but he moved around pretty well. I think [Byrd will play Sunday]. From all indications, unless there's a setback between now and then, I think he'll be there."
Wide receiver Ruvell Martin (ankle): "He practiced two days, looked better today than yesterday. I'm still real hopeful for him for Sunday."
Left tackle Cordy Glenn (ankle) and right guard Kraig Urbik: "Don't ask for a couple weeks. Don't ask me this Monday, but ask the next Monday."
Cornerback Ron Brooks (foot surgery) on temporary IR: "He has to be out for eight [weeks]. It looks like he's on schedule right now to be back to practice in eight. Then we have three weeks to make a decision. He's on track to be back."
