Four Bills on PFF's All-AFC East team; Patriots, Dolphins dominate

By Tim Graham

With 22 positions to choose on both sides of the ball, the Buffalo Bills should expect to have an average of 5.5 players on any kind of AFC East all-star team.

That, of course, would be if they played on par with the rest of the division. They haven't.

As a result, the Bills placed only four players on's midseason All-AFC East team.

Where readers should take note about this all-star ensemble is that, unlike the Pro Bowl, it's not a popularity contest. is an analytics site that uses metrics to separate the best from the ordinary.

Running back C.J. Spiller, guard Andy Levitre, defensive tackle Kyle Williams and safety Jairus Byrd made the midseason team.

The Bills did better than the New York Jets at least. Only two members of Gang Green made the list.

The supposedly rebuilding Miami Dolphins tied the New England Patriots for the most offensive and defensive representatives at eight. The Dolphins had at least one player on each of the five defensive units.

The Patriots had one player in five of the six offensive groups, including quarterback Tom Brady and tight end Rob Gronkowski of Williamsville. The Patriots also had two of the three inside linebacker spots.

Miami also filled three of the four special-teams spots.
