The Buffalo Bills won't have running back Fred Jackson for Thursday night's game against the Miami Dolphins.
Bills coach Chan Gailey confirmed Jackson suffered a concussion Sunday on a colossal fourth-quarter hit by New England Patriots linebacker Brandon Spikes.
"It looks like Fred'll be out this week," Gailey said today. "Tests this morning were not as good as we had hoped and he had hoped. So he won't play."
Gailey also announced defensive end Mark Anderson needed a followup knee procedure and will miss another two or three weeks and said defensive end Chris Kelsay is "probably 50-50" to return from his neck injury Thursday night.
Jackson rushed for a season-high 80 yards and two touchdowns against the Patriots. A goal-line fumble prevented a third touchdown. Jackson has 298 rushing yards and 183 receiving yards this year. He missed games in Weeks Two and Three because of a knee injury.
Jackson's absence will mean more touches for C.J. Spiller, who has had only 15 carries the past two weeks despite leading the NFL with a 7.3-yard average.
Gailey said Spiller will get "lots of opportunities" against Miami.
"The good thing is we haven't depended on having them both in the game for the majority of our game plan at any one time," Gailey said. "We've got enough that we can go into a game without Fred and keep people off balance."
