Buffalo Bills coach Chan Gailey discredited Sunday's report from ESPN's Adam Schefter that defensive end Mario Williams played the first seven games of the season with a torn left wrist ligament.
"I haven't heard anything about that," Gailey said. "I don't know where that came from, but I've heard nothing of that sort."
Schefter cited an anonymous Bills source in the report.
"That he had anything wrong with a ligament at all," Gailey said, "I had heard nothing about a ligament."
Williams played Sunday for the first time since Birmingham, Ala., hand specialist Dr. Thomas Hunt performed surgery nearly two weeks ago. Williams described the procedure as having the wrist "cleaned up," by removing "a bunch of junk and stuff that was in there."
Williams had a sack and a game-high seven tackles against the Houston Texans.
It doesn't look like the Bills' other free-agent defensive end, Mark Anderson, will have the chance to enjoy a similar homecoming against his former team.
Gailey announced Anderson had "a pretty good setback" in his recovery from knee surgery and might require another procedure. Gailey said Anderson's chances to play against the New England Patriots on Sunday in Gillette Stadium are "bad."
"They tell me if they end up doing [another surgery], it will be very minor, a two- or three-week deal, and he will be able to get back," Gailey said.
Wide receiver Stevie Johnson is believed to have a deep thigh bruise that will not keep him out of Sunday's game.
On cornerback Aaron Williams, who left Sunday's game with a knee injury, Gailey said, "It wasn't as bad as it could've been. He's going to miss a few weeks, but it's not a season-ender."
The status of right tackle Erik Pears remains ambiguous. Pears missed Sunday's game after a hip procedure and will require an evaluation period. Pears is unlikely to play against the Patriots.
"They're telling us a few days to a couple weeks is what we'll need to figure out exactly where he is and what he'll be able to do for the rest of the year, basically," Gailey said.
