Here’s a look at how the Western New Yorkers and University at Buffalo graduates currently playing in the NFL did in Week Nine, and how they've done so far this season. Drop me a line on Twitter (@JaySkurski) if I missed anyone.
James Starks, RB, Green Bay Packers: The Niagara Falls native got his first start of the season and rushed 17 times for 61 yards in the Packers’ 31-17 home win over Arizona. For the season, the 26-year-old Starks has 23 rushes for 80 yards and one reception in three games. He missed the first five games of the year because of a turf toe injury for the 5-3 Packers. Up next: Bye week.
Rob Gronkowski, TE, New England Patriots: On bye in Week Nine, “Gronk” had a monster game, with eight catches for 146 yards and two touchdowns for the Patriots in a 45-7 win over the St. Louis Rams in London in Week Eight. The 23-year-old Amherst native is having another strong season, with 43 catches for 580 yards and seven TDs. The Pats host the Bills at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Doug Worthington, DT, Washington Redskins: Inactive on Sunday against Carolina, the Buffalo native has appeared in two games for Washington this season, making a pair of tackles in Week Four. He’s been inactive the past four weeks. Worthington joined the Redskins’ active roster from their practice squad prior to Week Three. Up next: Bye week.
Brett Kern, P, Tennessee Titans: Kern punted six times in Week Nine against Chicago, for an average of 49.8 yards. His net average, though, was just 30.0). The Titans allowed 69 return yards on those six punts. The Grand Island native is averaging 47.8 yards per punt, with a net average of 41.1 on 42 punts. Up next: at Miami, 1 p.m. Sunday.
Corey Graham, DB, Baltimore Ravens: The sixth-year pro from Buffalo is in his first season with the Ravens after five with the Chicago Bears. He made a season-high six tackles, including four solo, in the Ravens’ 25-15 win over Baltimore in Week Nine. For the season, Graham has 15 tackles and two forced fumbles for the Ravens. Up next: vs. Oakland, 1 p.m. Sunday.
Mike Williams, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers: The Buffalo native has started all eight games this season for the Bucs, with 29 catches for 504 yards and five touchdowns. Williams finished with four catches for 68 yards and a touchdown in Sunday’s 42-32 win at Oakland as Tampa Bay improved to 4-4. Up next: vs. San Diego, 1 p.m. Sunday.
Chris Gronkowski, FB, Denver Broncos: Has appeared in all eight games for the 5-3 Broncos, making his first career catch for Denver in Week Three against Houston. Recorded an assisted special teams tackle in Week Nine in Denver’s 31-23 win at Cincinnati. Up next: at Carolina, 1 p.m. Sunday.
Josh Thomas, CB, Carolina Panthers: Made three tackles for the Panthers in a 21-13 win at Washington in Week Nine. Thomas has played in all eight games of the season for the 2-6 Panthers, making 13 tackles. UP next: vs. Denver, 1 p.m. Sunday.
Trevor Scott, LB, New England Patriots: Was inactive in Week Eight with a hamstring injury for the Pats, who were on bye in Week Nine. Has four tackles on the season.
