One of the biggest knocks against Buffalo Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick is his record in fourth-quarter comeback situations.
As researched by Scott Kacsmar, and published earlier this month on this blog by Tim Graham, Fitzpatrick is 2-11 over the last two seasons in those situations. A winning drive is defined as one that begins in the fourth quarter with the quarterback’s team trailing by eight points or less.
Keep that record in mind when reading the following quote from General Manager Buddy Nix – which comes via an interview he did with team play-by-play man John Murphy this week at the Senior Bowl.
"With quarterbacks, I think the big thing with them is can they win the game?" Nix said. "Do they do something to win the game? Can they play good in the fourth quarter, in the last three or four minutes?"
The answer to that question the past two seasons with Fitzpatrick has mostly been no.
Nix also told Murphy that he's spending most of his time in Mobile watching quarterbacks, wide receivers and linebackers.
"Those are still at the top of the list and I’m spending most of my time there, but I’ll try to see them all," Nix said.
Nix's entire interview can be seen here on the Bills' official website.
