The Press Coverage blog won't chronicle every move made by freshly minted NFL general managers -- and St. Francis High classmates -- David Caldwell or Tom Telesco.
But this one's worth noting.
Caldwell will be introduced as the Jacksonville Jaguars' GM later today, but he already has gotten to work. His first move was to fire coach Mike Mularkey.
Caldwell is a Buffalo native who's close friends with Bill Polian's sons. Caldwell, Telesco and Brian Polian also went to John Carroll University together.
I can't help but wonder if the fact Mularkey once quit on the Buffalo Bills impacted Caldwell's impression of him.
On a conference call with Bills reporters before the Jaguars came to Ralph Wilson Stadium a month ago, Mularkey was asked about his decision to resign as Bills head coach in January 2006, a week after Polian's close friend, Marv Levy, returned to the team as GM.
"I haven't talked about it for six years," Mularkey said. "I'm not going to. It's a personal thing, a family matter and I don't talk to anybody about it, let alone you guys.
"I've never said I regret it. I felt it was the right decision then. I still do, and again it has a lot to do with my family and my family will always come first in my profession, in my life, in anything I do, and I'll leave it at that."
