As far as we know, the first member of Chan Gailey's Buffalo Bills staff got a new job Monday.
Offensive coordinator and running backs coach Curtis Modkins no doubt used his work with Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller to get a job as running backs coach with the Detroit Lions.
I always find it interesting to see how quickly and where recently dismissed coaches find work. While there are mitigating circumstances, I think the process can illustrate how highly the coaches are viewed around the rest of the league.
As such, I'm going to provide a periodic rundown of where Gailey's assistants end up.
Modkins is the only confirmed hire, and there hasn't been much buzz around the others.
Quarterbacks coach David Lee has been mentioned as a possibility to replace Matt Cavanaugh on the New York Jets' unraveling staff.
There have been rumblings around the Dallas Cowboys that owner Jerry Jones, prone to dip into his past in times of crisis, might reach out to Dave Wannstedt. Fans on Georgia Tech message boards have bandied about defensive line coach Giff Smith's name for a spot there.
And that's that.
