The Buffalo Bills have been granted permission to interview Jacksonville Jaguars assistant head coach and defensive coordinator Mel Tucker, reports Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.
Tucker just finished his fourth season with the Jaguars. He also served as their interim coach for the final five games after they fired Jack Del Rio.
Tucker is from the Nick Saban coaching tree. Tucker was a graduate assistant under Saban at Michigan State and later served as defensive backs coach under Saban at Louisiana State.
With Tucker as defensive coordinator, Jacksonville ranked 29th, 11th, 27th and 24th in points and 30th, sixth, 28th and 23rd in yards.
Tucker also spent four seasons with the Cleveland Browns, starting out as a defensive backs assistant before a promotion to defensive coordinator in 2008. The Browns ranked 16th in points and 26th in yards that year.
