The Buffalo Bills have picked Syracuse coach Doug Marrone to be the team's next head coach, a team source has told The Buffalo News.
The Bills on Friday night confirmed that they had interviewed Marrone.
Marrone, 48, worked as the Jets' offensive line coach and was Sean Payton’s offensive coordinator in New Orleans from 2006 to 2008. He was 25-25 in four seasons at Syracuse, helping to turn around a team that was 10-37 prior to his arrival.
Marrone ended his run at Syracuse with a 38-14 win over West Virginia in last month's Pinstripe Bowl.

The Bills last week also interviewed Oregon coach Chip Kelly, former Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith, former Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt and current Cardinals defensive coordinator Ray Horton. They were also scheduled to interview Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy on Saturday.
The team acted swiftly to fill its coaching vacancy, selecting Marrone less than one week after firing Chan Gailey.
