It appears the Buffalo Bills might very soon be able to scratch one name off their list of NFL head coaching candidates.
NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport reported tonight via Twitter the following: "BREAKING: Chip Kelly is close to a deal to become the #Browns coach, according to a source informed of his situation".
Buffalo also is reportedly interviewing Syracuse coach Doug Marrone today, according to the following tweet from Cleveland Plain Dealer Browns beat writer Mary Kay Cabot: "#Syracuse hc doug marrone has interviewed w/ #browns. Is interviewing w/ #bills maybe today. Looks poise to go pro."
In Cabot's report on Kelly closing in on a deal with the Browns, she insinuates the coach never did meet with the Bills or Philadelphia Eagles, another team thought to be interested in his services.
"Browns owner Jimmy Haslam and CEO Joe Banner have been interviewing Kelly since 2 p.m., and plan to wrap him up before he interviews with anyone else," Cabot writes. "The Bills were scheduled to interview him today, and the Eagles were up next."
