Ryan Nassib likes idea of Bills, but Eagles his 'dream come true'

By Tim Graham

A month ago, much was made of Syracuse quarterback Ryan Nassib's remark that playing for the Buffalo Bills would be "a match made in heaven" because he could continue to play for head coach Doug Marrone and offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett in upstate New York.

Bills fans, more than others, love when a player suggests he wants to play for their team. That doesn't happen very often.

It reminds me of when Bernie Kosar worked the system so my hometown Cleveland Browns could snag him in the supplemental draft -- on purpose!

But Nassib admitted to at least one other fantasy destination when talking with reporters last week at the NFL scouting combine in Lucas Oil Stadium. He is from West Chester, Pa., and grew up a Philadelphia Eagles fan.

"Going home to Philly would be awesome," Nassib said. "I've been a season-ticket holder for a long time -- or my family has. It would be like coming home.

"It would be a dream come true. They were my team growing up. Being able to play for the team you saw all the time would be great."

Nassib also reiterated how thrilled he would be to get drafted by the Bills.

The Bills want to draft a quarterback. While NFL draft analysts don't believe Nassib is worth the eighth overall draft choice, the Bills could take him in that slot if their scouts are comfortable enough with him or in the second round if Nassib still is one the board.

"There's an opportunity there," Nassib said. "I have an opportunity with 32 teams, being here at the combine, interviewing with some of these teams. You don't get to choose the team you go to, but would I like to play for coach Marrone? Absolutely.

"We had a great relationship at Syracuse. We won some games. I feel like we had some great success at Syracuse from the time he came in. So that would be great.

"But at the end of the day, I'm just happy to have the opportunity to play on any team, and hopefully I find a team I'm a good fit for."
