Stevie Johnson would love to be the John Calipari of Buffalo.
Johnson claimed he has been trying his best to woo some star free agents to the Buffalo Bills.
Dwayne Bowe? Greg Jennings? Dashon Goldson?
If Johnson can help the Bills land one of them, then he'd become even more of a fan favorite.
"I've talked to a few guys, trying to get them to come to Buffalo," Johnson told me this afternoon.
Goldson apparently hasn't been fazed by fellow San Francisco 49ers safety Donte Whitner's comments about the Bills organization.
Goldson was an All-Pro free safety for San Francisco last season. He plays the same position as Jairus Byrd, but new defensive coordinator Mike Pettine didn't designate free and strong safeties with the New York Jets.
Johnson, a San Francisco native, said he spoke with Goldson on Thursday.
"I just asked him, 'Who would you want to go to?' Out of his lips, he was talking about Buffalo a lot," Johnson said. "I'm, like, 'Man!'
"Hopefully, we give him an offer."
Johnson also knows how another receiving threat such as Bowe or Jennings can impact the Bills' offense. The Bills were in need of help before they informed David Nelson and Donald Jones they wouldn't be re-signed.
"Who knows what's going to happen with Dwayne Bowe or Greg Jennings?" Johnson said, "But here's hoping they come through.
"I'm trying, man. I feel like we're close, and these fans deserve it. It's been a long time. It's a cycle in this league. We were up for a long time. Then we were down. Now I feel like it's coming around. We have some pieces to make it happen."
