Road to the Draft: Ryan Swope

By Mark Gaughan

Ryan Swope

Position: Wide receiver
School: Texas A&M
Measurements: 6-foot-1, 205 pounds.
40 time: 4.34 seconds. Vertical jump: 37 inches. Broad jump: 10 feet, 5 inches. 3-cone drill: 6.76 seconds.
2012 stats: 72 catches, 913 yards, 8 TDs.
Draft projection: Third-fourth round

Lowdown: Swope is a slot receiver who had great production for the Aggies the past two years. He had 89 catches for 1,207 yards as a junior and 72 for 913 yards as a senior. He had 19 TDs the past two years. Then he surprised scouts by running a blazing 40 time at the combine. His 4.34 was tied for the fastest among wide receivers (with West Virginia’s Tavon Austin). By comparison, ex-Bill Lee Evans ran 4.39 at the combine. Many compare Swope to NFL veteran Brandon Stokley, except Swope is bigger and faster. His best work by far is inside. He’s not going to be an outside receiver. Medical evaluations will be a factor for him. He has suffered multiple concussions. He could be a consideration for the Bills in the third round if they do not take a wideout in the first two rounds.
