TE Travis Kelce posts solid 40 time at workout

By Mark Gaughan

University of Cincinnati tight end Travis Kelce is an intriguing prospect in the upcoming NFL Draft at a position where the Buffalo Bills need help.

Kelce was not able to work out at the NFL Scouting Combine or Cincinnati's pro day because he's recovering from a sports hernia surgery. He delayed his on-field workout for NFL scouts until Thursday, and he did not hurt himself with his running.

Kelce's times in the 40-yard dash were 4.64 and 4.69 seconds, according to NFL.com and the Cincinnati Post. That's solid, especially since he's not fully 100 percent recovered. Notre Dame's Travis Eifert, the top-rated tight end in the draft, ran 4.68 at the combine. Stanford's Zach Ertz, arguably the second-rated tight end, ran 4.76.

Kelce is rated No. 69 on the prospect ranking of NFL Network analyst Gil Brandt. He had to sit out all of the 2010 season because of a suspension for violating team rules. If he were still on the board in the third round, he might be a consideration for the Bills, presuming he passes their character standards.
