Ryan Nassib wanted to be a Bill, but Giants 'an even better spot'

By Tim Graham

Ryan Nassib wasn't merely being diplomatic when he expressed a desire to be the Buffalo Bills' quarterback.

He recently reiterated his pre-draft hopes on "Larry King Now," which is an actual thing on

The Bills instead drafted Florida State quarterback EJ Manuel 16th overall, and the New York Giants took Nassib in the fourth round.

"In the back of my mind, you think it would be a good fit with the familiar faces and stuff, but they went a different direction, and I landed in a great spot," Nassib said. "I wish them the best success."

Rather than battling for the starting job under new Bills coach Doug Marrone, for whom Nassib played at Syracuse, Nassib will back up two-time Super Bowl winner Eli Manning.

"I would like to have gone and played for them because it was my offense that they're going to be running, that I ran in college," Nassib told King recently. "So the learning curve was going to be a lot smaller.

"But I feel like I ended up in an even better spot."

King asked Nassib if he called Marrone to gripe after the Bills passed on him.

"I kind of went into the process thinking there was a chance that they were going to pick somebody else," Nassib said. "So when that came about, I was already prepared for it."
