Bills fans should like Jerry Jones' comments about NFL in L.A.

By Tim Graham

Twice in the past few days, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has spoken about the NFL nearing a return to Los Angeles.

As Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com pointed out Sunday, "closer than ever" is a relative phrase. Jones' comment Wednesday night that it's "more imminent than any time since we haven't had a team in Los Angeles" should be weighed similarly.

But Jones' optimism should be viewed favorably by Buffalo Bills fans, given what he told me in May.

Jones, as you may recall from the Press Coverage blog, said "if I were a Bills fan I would feel good about the recent negotiation and remodeling of the stadium." Jones also mentioned other cities should be worried.

On the NFL Network's "Training Camp Today," Jones seemed to suggest a couple of candidates have emerged. The Cowboys hold their training camp in nearby Oxnard, Calif.

"I think with basis, I feel more imminent about a team being in here, that it is more imminent than any time since we haven't had a team in Los Angeles," Jones said. "This market is a huge market. It is a little bit of a black eye for all of us to have had this many years and not had an NFL team in Los Angeles.

"The owners don't mess much up; I am saying that with a smile. But we haven't gotten this one right.

"There are people, there are locations, there are people that are interested -- viable people -- that could help us put this thing together. As it turns out, we do have two teams … that could move to this area. There won't be any expansion. So it will be teams that move."
