PITTSFORD -- Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Kyle Williams says he's close to returning from his offseason heel surgery and he expects to be practicing in training camp at St. John Fisher College. But he's not quite ready to hit the field for the start of camp.

"It’s getting better," said the Bills' two-time Pro Bowler. "It’s just missing just a little bit. But it’s close and I’m getting better."

Williams had surgery to repair bone spurs on his right heel in February. He had the same injury on the left heel in 2011, although the right heel wasn't nearly as bad.

The spur on the left heel frayed his Achilles tendon and required a reattachment of the tendon. The surgery this year took place before any real damage was done to the right Achilles.

So Williams knows all about coming back from the injury. He's confident he'll be working in camp.

"That's definitely the plan," he said. "I think kind of erring on the side of caution makes sense, but it's definitely getting better. I'm doing a lot of football-type drills.

"I'm going to mix my words. We want to be aggressive with it, but we don't want to push it too much. I think we're in a good spot."
