Ron Jaworski projects Kevin Kolb as Bills' starter, ranks him 30th

By Tim Graham

ESPN analyst Ron Jaworski is counting down his annual preseason rankings of the NFL's probable starting quarterbacks.

He's revealing them eight picks at a time, and we won't have to wait for his thoughts on the Buffalo Bills' quarterback.

Jaworski projects Kevin Kolb will win the job and slotted him 30th, ahead of Oakland Raiders newcomer Matt Flynn and Tennessee Titans prospect Jake Locker.

"It seems like Kevin has been around for a long time, yet he has only started 21 games in his six-year NFL career," Jaworski said. "And we know Kolb is a caretaker, playing only until EJ Manuel is ready."

Kolb couldn't beat out John Skelton for the Arizona Cardinals' starting job last year. Kolb started five games when Skelton got hurt, and playing behind Arizona's feeble offensive line "highlighted his limitations," Jaworski said.

"One thing that has always prevented Kolb from developing into a consistent quarterback has been his inability to operate in a muddied pocket, with bodies flying around him," Jaworski said. "You have to be able to do that. Kolb is a functional space passer who needs a comfortable cradle to deliver the football."

Jaworski doesn't expect Kolb to keep the position for long anyway.

"Kolb only has a limited time as the Bills starter in 2013," Jaworski said. "He has reached the journeyman stage in his career, playing for his third team in his seven seasons. That's why he's No. 30."
