Stevie Johnson estimates he's out 'a week or a few weeks'

By Mark Gaughan

PITTSFORD -- Bills receiver Stevie Johnson will be out "awhile" with a pulled hamstring muscle suffered in Friday's practice at St. John Fisher College. Coach Doug Marrone said the team will not rush their No. 1 receiver back into training camp practice.

"He's gonna be out for awhile," Marrone said. "We're gonna make sure we don't work hard to get him back as soon as we possibly. can. ... What I mean by ahwile is it's gonna be at least a week and then after that I'll probably come out with something and see where we are."

Johnson watched Saturday's practice. Afterward he said: "Either a week or few weeks. It all depends on how I feel, how my leg feels."

"I just know it’s pulled," Johnson said. "I’ll get in there and get the right treatment so that hopefully I can get back soon. It’s happened every training camp. Every training camp I’ve had an injury. But working with the guys, they’ve always got me out there for Week One and for the rest of the season. Hopefully it’s the same thing."

Johnson said while he's out he will do whatever he can do off the field to get ready for the season.

"I can’t even say I’m frustrated right now," he said. "It’s something else that needs to be done. Maybe I need to get in the book more. Maybe I need to strengthen my legs for the season because we may be playing even longer. I’m not frustrated really. If it was during the season, I’d be pissed. But right now I don’t want to sound like that player, but I don’t want to force anything and hurt our chances in the season to have me."
