Bills name EJ Manuel starter for opener

By Mark Gaughan

The Buffalo Bills announced this morning first-round pick EJ Manuel will start Sunday's season opener against the New England Patriots.

Manuel's left knee was injured in the second exhibition game against the Minnesota Vikings. He had minor arthroscopic surgery and didn't play in either of the Bills' last two preseason games.

Manuel fully participated in Monday's practice and split first-ream reps with Jeff Tuel, who would've become the first undrafted rookie in modern NFL history to start a season opener had Manuel been unable to play.

The Bills were off Tuesday and return to the practice field this morning in preparation for Sunday's game at Ralph Wilson Stadium.
