Bills meeting with QBs Pat White, Dennis Dixon

By Mark Gaughan

The Buffalo Bills have brought free-agent quarterbacks Pat White and Dennis Dixon to town for meetings with the coaches, sources confirmed to The News.

White is a former second-round draft pick of the Miami Dolphins in 2009 but was out of the NFL for three seasons, from 2010 to 2012. Dixon spent four seasons as a backup with the Pittsburgh Steelers and was released this summer by Philadelphia. Both visits were reported earlier today by Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.

Both White and Dixon are mobile quarterbacks who seemingly could fit into the offense run by offensive coordiantor Nathaniel Hackett.

Washington signed White in the spring but released him on Sept. 14. White, 6-foot and 190 pounds, is a fine athlete who was a dual-threat quarterback for West Virginia University. He passed for 6,049 yards and 56 touchdowns while running for 4,480 and 47 touchdowns over a four-year career.

Considering his layoff from the NFL, White played reasonably well in preseason. He completed 56 percent of his passes for 330 yards rushed 19 times for 103 yards. Buffalo got an up-close look at him this summer. He did well against the Bills in the third exhibition game on Aug. 24. He completed 7 of 14 passes for 96 yards and ran for 26 yards and a touchdown.

Dixon, 6-3 and 210, was a dual-threat star for Oregon. He entered the league as a fifth-round draft pick of the Steelers in 2008. He saw action in four games over four years and went 2-1 as a starter.
