Bills running back C.J. Spiller is expected to return to the team's lineup Sunday against Kansas City at Ralph Wilson Stadium.

He (and the team's fans) can only hope the second half of his 2013 season is much improved from the first. Spiller has rushed for just 362 yards through the team's first eight games. Spiller has played in seven of those -- taking last Sunday off to rest a high-ankle sprain that his hampered him Since Week Four. Spiller's average per rush of 4.0 yards is exactly 2 full yards less than the 6.0 yards per carry he had in 2012.

"He's really made good strides during this week," Bills coach Doug Marrone said. "I still think there are a couple things that we have to get over the top."

Spiller did plenty of work with the team's training staff during the week, but said "I am definitely not back to normal yet."

The sooner he can get there for the Bills, the better. Kansas City is giving up 4.7 yards per rush, which is tied for 28th in the league, so there could be some opportunities in the run game this week. Spiller scorched the Chiefs for 170 rushing and receiving yards and two touchdowns last year in a 35-17 victory over Kansas City.

"Prior to the game we’ll have him working, too," Marrone said. "This way we keep progress going, like I said before we have the ability now to really amp it up and try to catch him up."
